JUST IN TIME
Eight years ago, Gabbie, a pug-beagle mix, gave birth to a litter of puppies. An Indiana animal shelter planned to euthanize her as soon as the pups were weaned. But Janice Pope, owner of Ben Fur Pet Grooming in West Harrison, took Gabbie in as a foster.
Not long after, in walks Jodi to get her two dogs, Lexi and Annie, groomed. The groomer suggested Jodi take a look at her new foster dog. Jodi, literally, has had dogs all of her life. She even had a dog while in college — and her dog Lexi was a rescue.
What happens next? Jodi took Gabbie in — just as she had done for Lexi.
Jodi brought Gabbie into the studio. I asked why dogs were so special to her.
“I cannot imagine life without a dog!” she exclaimed. “They’re at the door to greet you. They’re happy to see you.
Then she laughed. “Who needs a therapist when you come home to that?”
